The spring session of the Setouchi Triennale 2022 successfully concluded on May 18th.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the Golden Week holidays, Naoshima was bustling with people, attracting over 25,000 visitors.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although we were safe, what surprised us was a complete island-wide power outage that occurred just before 2 PM on May 7th.<\/span><\/p>\n

We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers, as the tourism association was unable to use self-checkout registers and had to handle payments with only calculators and cash.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, the impact and damage from the power outage were not at all small, even just for the tourism industry, with people struggling to buy drinks from vending machines, unusable restrooms, and cancellations of accommodation and closures of art facilities that day, among other issues. The power outage, which we thought would only last a short while, continued for four hours, and we could only act with ingenuity, doing what each of us could, with a sense of unease. We were relieved when the power was restored before sunset.<\/span><\/p>\n

The next Setouchi Triennale 2022 summer exhibition will be from August 5th to September 4th. The following two artworks on Naoshima can only be seen during the summer exhibition.<\/span><\/p>\n
