Be careful! He might be here?

2016/06/26

Who's that guy!?

That's right. It's a "wild boar."
One of the recent problems facing the islands in the Seto Inland Sea is the proliferation of wild boars.
You might be wondering, "Why boars on a remote island?" Well, boars can swim!
I swam across the Seto Inland Sea from the mainland and have settled here.

Last year, damage has been spreading everywhere. Sweet potato fields were wiped out, and some rice paddies lost more than half of their crop. I've also heard stories of people being chased on their way home from work. We've also heard reports of tourists witnessing it during the day.

Each person is taking measures using electric fences, old nets from yellowtail farming, and other methods, and the local government has also begun to take action.
I'm setting a trap. While exploring Naoshima,This kind of signIf you see one, it's dangerous, so please don't go near it.

Speaking of wild boars, the island life blog also has something interesting about them.Wild boar topiccame out

If, by chance, you see a wild boar on the island, do not think about taking pictures out of curiosity.

Do not approach!

Island life common occurrences 4-panel manga

Naoshima is, as you know, an "island."

The area is approximately 8 square kilometers, and the population is 3,135.(As of April 1, 2015)
The school only goes up to junior high school.
Online stores sometimes charge extra for shipping to remote islands.
But it's a really lovely island.

A comic essay by a woman who moved to such an island from the city, detailing her island life.
This is a blog that can be fully enjoyed by both those who understand the "commonplace anecdotes" of island living and those who don't.

The author is Shiori Matsuzaki. About five years ago, she moved to Naoshima, and by chance, she is now a bride and mother on the island. She also serves as Naoshima Town's "Tourism Goodwill Ambassador" and is active in island events. Her Twitter and Instagram are also fun. You can find her accounts by reading her blog.

Please take a look.

That commercial also featuresNaoshima Elementary School" appears.

Naoshima Elementary School is the first in the "Naoshima Architecture" series, completed in 1970, but
It's an amazing (interesting) design that doesn't look like it's over 45 years old.

直島建築The design is by Kazuhiro Ishii.
This was a work from when I was a graduate student at the University of Tokyo, at the young age of 26.
Mr. Ishii went on to design several public facilities in Naoshima Town.
For more details on other buildings, please inquire.Naoshima Town WebsitePlease see.

Naoshima offers not only art but also architecture to enjoy.
A trip to Naoshima visiting Mr. Ishii's architecture is also wonderful.

The book "Naoshima Architecture," which compiles the architecture of Naoshima, is available for purchase at "Naoshima Rakuchi" in the Umi no Eki "Naoshima" (310 yen).
Whether you're interested in architecture or not, please consider purchasing it.

Naoshima Elementary School appears around the 40-second mark.
