Naoshima Architecture Renewal
2017/04/20
While Tadao Ando is widely known in Naoshima as the architect of the "Chichu Art Museum" and "Benesse House Museum," there are many other architects' works on the island as well.
The Naoshima Architecture Series began with Kazuhiro Ishii, who created numerous works, including Naoshima Elementary School, from 1970 to 1995. The ferry terminal "Naoshima" is a work by SANAA, a globally active firm also known for the Louvre Museum's satellite location. Other examples include Hiroshi Sambuichi's Naoshima Hall.
"Naoshima Architecture" introduces the architecture of Naoshima with detailed data such as floor plans and photographs. It is published by the Naoshima Town Hall, and the latest edition has just been released. The price is only 310 yen per copy, which also serves the purpose of a town bulletin.
Available for purchase at the Naoshima Rakuchi souvenir shop in Umi-no-Eki Naoshima. How about a memento of your trip to Naoshima? With every turn of the page, the scenery will come back to you. It's also a perfect souvenir for architecture enthusiasts.
Of course, it's also fun to buy it when you arrive and then open it while exploring Naoshima.
