Spring is in full bloom
2023/03/31
Naoshima is also starting to feel like spring. The cherry blossoms at the Chichu Art Museum are in full bloom.

The Oshima cherry trees in Sakura no Meikyu are still in bud, but they're swelling nicely! (Checked on March 30th). The Somei Yoshino trees around them are about five-tenths in bloom. They should be in full bloom this weekend. It's interesting how the cherry blossoms vary by tree within the island.

Starting this March, a truly large number of visitors have been coming to the island every day. The proportion of international visitors has also increased, and hearing not only English but also various other languages is unique to Naoshima.
However, there aren't many restaurants where you can eat dinner on Naoshima (especially on Mondays!), so we often see people struggling in the evenings. We recommend either securing a meal beforehand at your accommodation or making a restaurant reservation. It's truly disappointing to travel all the way from afar and then not be able to eat dinner. There are also supermarkets (Co-op is open until 7:00 PM) and convenience stores (6:30 AM - 9:00 PM) on the island, so some people opt to buy their food there. Alternatively, you could have an early dinner around Uno Port, which is a 15-minute ferry ride from Naoshima, and then take the ferry back (the last ferry from Uno departs at 8:25 PM, smaller boats at 10:30 PM, and late-night at 12:35 AM!). Using the ferries like a bus in this way can also be part of the fun!
Please enjoy Naoshima in spring with a thorough and flexible travel plan!
