Naoshima Pavilion Blue Illumination
2020/06/25

It is lit up daily from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM.
In our efforts to express our respect and gratitude to healthcare professionals, caregivers, and all those involved in maintaining social life, such as logistics, who work day and night in medical, nursing, and welfare facilities around the world and throughout Japan, while facing the risks of novel coronavirus infection, we are participating in the "LIGHT IT BLUE Campaign," a lighting campaign organized by the MAKE IT BLUE JAPAN Executive Committee, albeit in a small way, here in Naoshima.
As there is still no end in sight and we are exploring new ways of living, let's connect our prayers and thoughts to our actions, with gratitude to those fighting on the front lines of this trial for humanity, and let's all do our best with what we can do! We must not let our guard down.
Normally illuminated in white at night, the Naoshima Pavilion was created in 2015 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Naoshima Town's incorporation. It is a work by architect Sou Fujimoto, conceived as the "28th island" of Naoshima Town, which consists of 27 islands.
Combined with its reflection on the water's surface, the blue pavilion, which we don't usually get to see, is also very mysterious. Through this activity, we hope that our thoughts and actions will contribute in some small way to the strength of those on the front lines.
