Winter Naoshima
2022/12/28
December in Naoshima had been relatively warm, but over the past week, the island has been hit by a nationwide cold snap with strong winds, making it feel like winter has truly arrived. We recommend bringing warm gear like gloves and hats for exploring outdoor art pieces and the Art House Project, unless you're spending your time inside the museums.
Visitors from outside the prefecture at this time of year often say, "I thought the Seto Inland Sea was warmer." The strong west winds that blow in winter are sometimes enough to stop the high-speed ferry service between Naoshima and Takamatsu. Car ferries rarely stop, but please pay close attention to the route information for small boats.
Also, due to maintenance from the New Year's holidays and mid-January, those planning a trip to Naoshima this month or next should conduct thorough prior research (please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions) and make flexible plans before visiting.

The best thing about Naoshima in winter is undoubtedly being able to view the artworks at a leisurely pace, sometimes even having them all to yourself. It's a luxurious experience to confront the art with heightened senses in the crisp, clear air. The cold doesn't seem so bad when you consider that.
And we hope you will also be warmed by your interactions with the island residents.

Happy New Year, everyone! Happy holidays!
